Mary Aikenhead Ministries
Mary Aikenhead Ministries was established by the Holy See as a public juridic person at the request of the Sisters of Charity of Australia to succeed to, and to carry on and expand, various health and aged care, education, research and welfare ministries conducted by the Sisters of Charity. The creation of Mary Aikenhead Ministries represents a new chapter in a continuing story of the works started by Mary Aikenhead in Ireland in 1815 and continued here in Australia since 1838. The bold decision by the Sisters of Charity of Australia to transfer their operations to Mary Aikenhead Ministries on 1 July 2009 represents the inherent courage of the Sisters and their commitment to ensure the continued growth and development of service of the poor remain a vital part of the Australian community well into the next century. Mary Aikenhead Ministries continues the mission of Jesus Christ and assumes responsibility to further the health, aged care, education, research and some welfare ministries.
