In 2018, Archbishop Julian Porteous issued a call to the Tasmanian Catholic community to look at how they could work together to address homelessness.

The South Hobart Catholic Parish, CatholicCare Tasmania and Centacare Evolve Housing answered the Archbishop’s call.

Utilising an existing building at the back of St Xavier’s Catholic Church, and with capital grant funding from Housing Tasmania, eight affordable housing units have been developed on-site for women over the age of 55.

The units were officially opened in August 2019 by Her Excellency, Professor the Honourable Kate Warner, AC, Governor of Tasmania.
