Catholic Social Services Australia (CSSA) and the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholic Council (NATSICC) welcome yesterday’s joint announcement by the Federal Minister for Social Services and the Federal Minister for Indigenous Australians on the launch of the Our Ways – Strong Ways – Our Voices: National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Plan to End Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence 2026-2036.
Under the Plan, new funding of over $218 million across four years will be dedicated to ending violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children who continue to face significantly higher and unacceptable rates of violence than other Australians.
Dr Jerry Nockles, CEO of Catholic Social Services Australia, said the launch of the Plan affirms the elimination of domestic, family and sexual violence as a truly national priority, alongside the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022–2032 and key Closing the Gap targets.
