Catholic Social Services Australia (CSSA) has today welcomed the appointment of the Hon Tanya Plibersek MP as the new Minister for Social Services.

CSSA Executive Director, Dr Jerry Nockles, congratulated Minister Plibersek on her appointment, highlighting the significance of her new role in addressing Australia’s most pressing social challenges.

“On behalf of Catholic Social Services Australia and our extensive network of member organisations, I extend our warmest congratulations to Minister Plibersek on her appointment to the critically important Social Services portfolio,” Dr Nockles said.

“Minister Plibersek brings extraordinary experience, clear talent, and tremendous energy to this vital role. Her demonstrated passion for social policy and unwavering commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable Australians make her exceptionally well-suited to lead in this space.”

Dr Nockles emphasised CSSA’s eagerness to work collaboratively with Minister Plibersek to address the complex challenges facing the sector.

“We look forward to building a productive partnership with Minister Plibersek as we work together to advance the common good and elevate human potential across our communities. The social services sector faces significant challenges, including housing affordability, cost of living pressures, and increasing demand for support services. Minister Plibersek’s proven track record of thoughtful policy development gives us great confidence in her ability to navigate these complex issues.”

CSSA also welcomed the reappointment of Dr Andrew Leigh MP as Assistant Minister for Treasury and Charities.

“We are delighted to continue our constructive relationship with Minister Leigh in the Charities portfolio. His deep understanding of the sector and commitment to supporting the invaluable work of charitable organisations across Australia has been evident throughout his tenure,” Dr Nockles said.
